Content Warning: sensitive topic ahead!

In episode 46 of this popular drama series, viewers witness a troubling scene where Ali's character, Murtasim, seemingly engages in non-consensual acts with his wife, Meerab (played by Zaidi), as the credits roll. Furthermore, the preview for the upcoming episode suggests that "Tere Bin" will delve into the theme of marital rape. This sudden transformation of a beloved character has sent shockwaves throughout the drama's fanbase.

Many people have voiced their concerns about the show and its writer, questioning the unnecessary downfall of Murtasim's character development. However, the writer, Nooran Makhdoom, has now responded to the criticism.

In an interview with Arab News, Makhdoom stated, "The situation portrayed was essential for the progression of the story and its climax. If the audience fails to grasp this, I cannot alter it." She further added, "At the end of the day, it's just a drama. Instead of raising objections after each episode, they should patiently wait for the entire story to unfold."

The writer also mentioned that both the content team and the production house did not raise any objections to the new storyline. "It's not the first time such a thing has been depicted on screen," she stated. "However, due to the extensive recognition this project has garnered, people have strongly reacted to the recent twist."

Makhdoom went on to reveal that the controversial scene involving spitting and slapping in the last episode was not originally part of the script. It was modified during the filming process. She firmly stands by both the scene and the script. "If we discuss my social responsibility, I created a story and I stand behind it," she expressed to the publication. "And such occurrences are not uncommon; they have happened in the past."
